Representatives of the Roma Association of Republika Srpska, commemorated today the International Day of Roma people, at the memorial in Donja Gradina, the largest execution site of the Jasenovac camp, where 40,000 Roma were killed.
The exodus of Roma in the Independent State of Croatia started in the spring of 1942. After their list was prepared by the authorities, their assembly started and was followed by their transportation to the concentration camp of Jasenovac. Upon arrival to the camp, older men, women, and children were immediately taken for liquidation in Donja Gradina, whereas those of working age were kept for a short while in the camp, inside a separately fenced area called III-C. T Apart from a small group of Roma who was assigned to the workgroup of gravediggers in Donja Gradina, most of the Roma were killed until the end of June 1942.
Representatives of the Slovenian LOT team from Banja Luka attended the commemoration of World Roma Day in Donja Gradina.
