Expecting the arrival of partisans, Ustashas started liquidating the camp in Stara Gradiška as early as on the night of 22 / 23 April. Prisoners tried to survive through those moments in different ways. Some managed to jump over the camp wall using wire and blankets tied together, three of them hid in the camp well, whereas the rest hid in camp buildings and attics.
